KOTA KINABALU, April 6 (Bernama) -- The CIMB Group has given an assurance that there would be no retrenchment of its staff in facing the current economic downturn.
Its group chief executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak reiterated today that the rejuvenation programme for its staff announced on March 30 was not aimed at cost-saving, but rather a good opportunity for the 36,000 staff to take no-pay leave for a month and up to six months.
"I have made it clear that there would be no retrenchment of our staff, especially during the economic crisis.
"During times like this, it is important that the company is there for our workers. While there is a slowdown in business, it is also a good time to take a break and recharge.
"Who knows, when the economy booms again, there might not be opportunities to take a long holiday," he told reporters after the opening of the CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic Branch at 1Borneo Hypermall here today.
